Shiseido UNO Fiber Neo Series – Mat Creator

Shiseido UNO Fiber Neo—a big competitor of the Gatsby Moving Rubber Series in Japan—reviewed on Style06!

First Impression

Looks like a rip off from the Gatsby Moving Rubber Series, same colours (Pink, Blue, Purple, Orange, Yellow, Green). But instead of the Gatsby version of this product (Grunge Mat) the container isn’t grey. The Shiseido UNO Fiber Neo series “surprisingly” also sells the products in both the 80g (normal size) and 15g (traveling size) just as their rival company, Gatsby.

It’s an aluminum container which looks and feels pretty neat. There are also some sort of engraving on the side of the lid, it is for closing purposes, but it adds points to it looks and it also makes it easier to open the lid. Shiseido UNO Mat Creator has a beige lid and a white container bottom, a pretty good color combination and looks fancy, looks likes a product you’d find at salons. Unlike the other products in the series, the promotion tag doesn’t have a model posing. Also once you’ve unwrapped the plastic around the container, the side text on it will disappear too, because it’s printed on the plastic, not on the container. Not a really big problem since the name also stands on top of the lid, but I personally felt a little bit of disappointment.

On top of the lid stands “UNO Mat Creator Shiseido”

Text is gone once you unwrap it.

This product would be comparable to the Grey Gatsby.

The Review

The container contains not a total light grey, but not too dark either color of wax. Upon opening there isn’t a strong smell looking to get out of the container, however once you get really close to smell it, it kind of smells like some sort of chemical wax smell, not very natural, but you wouldn’t really smell it after applying it onto your hair. The surface of the wax is all smooth upon first opening, except there are some circles from your lid. Unlike Gatsby Grunge Mat, it doesn’t have the same hard/rough texture when scooping it out. It feels all smooth, when you rub an acceptable amount (fingertip and less) the wax won’t stay grey in your hands. (Luckily!) And it could even disappear all on your palms! When applying it to your hair I like to smoothen all of my hair DOWNWARDS. After that, I would fumble it around and put some parts up, split big strands into smaller ones, rearrange strands, pinch sides and flare out my mullet. It leaves a nice matte look (who would’ve thought that) and would last pretty long, but it is advisable to spray some hairspray onto your roots (lift with an open hand with slightly bowed fingers the tip of  your hair and spray a small amount of hairspray) and you should spray on the back as that part flattens easily. Once again I wouldn’t advice you to use this product for the “fortified spikes”, but rather a nice formal look with slightly wavy strands. The product is best for medium to medium long hair. Of course it could be used on short hair, but you would have to use smaller amounts, and it would require a good haircut and/or some good skills for longer hair.

Pros Cons
Okay hold Needs some skills to maximize purpose of this product
Great matte look
For medium to medium long hair

  1. can you tell me what the sheiseido uno multi desgin does?

  2. I would like to, but I don’t have those two products atm. I could get them in summer when I’am going to HK, or colin could send me some… hehe

  3. can you do a review on the aero move or power motion?

  4. It feels pretty soft in your hand actually and once you’ve putted it in your hair it wouldn’t feel really heavy or greasy. It absolutely gives another feeling than normal waxes. Also if you’ve used too much product, it would definitely feel sticky on your head. But throughout the day it would feel less sticky, but your hair would stay in the same shape and texture. Hope that I’ve answered your question!

  5. How’s the feel of it in your hands and also when you’ve got in your hair? I’m imagining it to be a cross between a hard and soft wax. Hopefully it doesn’t have the same greasy, waxy feel like a lot of the American waxes on the market tend to.
