First Impression

At first glance, the packaging of the Shiseido is similar to the Gatsby Moving Rubber Series. However, it uses an aluminum container rather than whatever material Gatsby uses, giving it a more salon-like design—but it doesn’t look as cool. It also requires as much effort to open it as Gatsby, since it is round. The UNO Fiber Neo Series also comes in 80 gram containers, just like their rival. My primary reason that I got this was that it was more popular than Gatsby, making it their main competitor in Japan. In terms of use and ability, I would compare this product to either the Pink or Grey Gatsby. It has great hold and leaves a natural, soft finish to your hair.

The Review

When you open the container, you will see a pearl white wax that has a similar consistency to Gatsby Cool Wet. When you use your finger to scoop out a finger amount, a string of wax follows, like to a cheesy pizza. Because of this, Acrobat Wire is very easy to control and spreads effortlessly around your palms and hair as well. The wax is very light so it won’t weigh your hair down if you are going for the insane spikes. It has great, flexible hold and leaves your hair looking soft and natural, almost a matte finish.

It is like having the hold of Pink Gatsby and the no-shine of Grey Gatsby: it’s the best of both worlds! I would not recommend this product to use as fortification for spikes because the consistency will spread easily onto your hair bundles, saturating it. My technique is to first shape my faux hawk with it and then apply clay or wax to define my spikes. Products that will go well with this are wax/clay to fortify spikes (I use and recommend Pink Gatsby) and hairspray (I recommend Pantene Texturizing Hairspray) for all-day hold. Both of these products and their reviews can be found on Style06. This product is best for short to medium hair lengths; I do not recommend using it on long hair, because long hair is heavier and requires far too much product to lift.

  1. Hey, is this only available online for people in the US? I’ve been searching for it but some places are saying its only available in like Japan or Hong Kong.

Japanese markets wouldn’t carry it in California?

  2. Excellent, appreciate it!

  3. Gatsby Pink is very hard to wash out. I currently own hold king, but have yet to use it, so I cannot answer your questions as of now. I heard, however, that Hold King is the equivalent to Gatsby Pink. Stay tuned for another review on Shiseido UNO Hold King :] Hopefully, it will answer your questions.

    • Stevie, etc:

Any update on that Hold King review? The number of Uno Fiber varieties is causing me a headache! And there are so very few limited reviews out there…

  4. Nice review. I’m currently using Gatsby Pink to style my hair and it works really well, infact it’s almost perfect for what i need… The only problem is this stuff is unbelievably hard to wash out, so much so that im looking at other options and the UNO Fiber Neo line from Shiseido has caught my eye. Acrobat Wire looks really good, would it be an equivalent of Gatsby Pink in the UNO line ? Or is something like “Hold King” closer? I want the same hold, low shine, ease of application as Gatsby Pink, basically all of the same properties, in an easier to wash out package lol.

    Thanks for any help.
