Schwarzkopf Live Color XXL: Absolute Platinum

Written by: Rachel

As I browsed through the many different brands and shades of hair dye in the drugstore, I decided to go with Absolute Platinum. My natural hair colour is black, but I had always kept my hair in shades of brown or mahogany colours (using blonde hair dye) since I was 15, and I thought I should change my hair now, something different ^^ This is my hair colour before I used the dye~

(I forgot to take a before and after picture, my hair is short now. Photo taken in natural light)

I wasn’t sure if I should buy 1 or 2 boxes, on the box itself says “If your hair is longer than chin length, we recommend using two packs for a first- time application”. Even though I read this, I ended up buying 1 box, as my hair is very layered and shoulder length. I suggest you buy 2 boxes, you’ll find out why in a bit…

If you’r hair is brown or darker, don’t expect the outcome to be like it is on the box. I was expecting this to turn my hair orange, which it did. This product is a hair lightener and will take out the colour pigments in your hair. It works for people with light hair, but for people with dark hair, it will always come out orange. Don’t use this product if you do not want orange hair.

The Review

From past experiences with other Schwarzkopf hair dye products, the gloves they provided aren’t that good, so I used some rubber gloves instead (No not kitchen ones!) whilst mixing it together, the smell wasn’t bad compared to other dyes I’ve used before. This is the most bearable one out of them all actually (in my experience).

I had to use a comb as well to help spread the dye around. As for the back, I got my mum to do it for me. It’s better if you have someone to help you since you can’t see the back of your head :)

After a while, I soon realised that one box was not enough D: but it was too late to do anything about that. So I had to work with what I had (>.<) I tried to spread around what was left, but there was still some dark parts (oh dear).

Now at that moment, the top of my hair was ORANGE, and the bottom layer of my hair was still brown :/ Obviously because of the way I applied it, the first part will be the lightest. I panicked slightly, but I had to wait until the end to see the true result.

I left it to develop for 30 minutes, since the top of my hair was so orange compared to the rest of my hair.

This comes with a conditioner, which leaves your hair feeling reasonably soft. And my hair did not feel dry, I’d say its the same as my hair before.

Now I’ll show you the final result! ~

As so you can see, there are streaks and patches of brown!  If your hair is the same length or longer, make sure you buy 2 boxes to avoid the streaks and patches!

My hair now has different tones, orange top and brown underneath, and blotches -___-  I guess it looks okay… but I am pretty sure I’ll end up dying it brown or something again now. Haha

But we all have different preferences.

Pros:

Cons:

Something I couldn’t put into either is that it turns dark hair orange.

Overall, I’m pretty satisfied with this product, maybe not with the streaks, patches and blotches… but I’ll live, my problem was that I didn’t have enough dye left, nothing to do with the product itself ^^;

So yes, If orange is what you want, you may want to try this out.
