Gatsby Moving Rubber Wild Shake (Purple) – Product Review

Written by: Brianlam

Hmm, so I’m finally getting around to writing this article… and a Style06 exclusive, at that!

Purple

First Impression

I like to think of Purple as the under-appreciated older brother of Pink Gatsby.  Why under-appreciated?  Because Pink is so versatile that it extends into the short-end length range

of Purple, while Green and Orange cover the opposite end–in other words, why buy Purple when you can continue using Pink?  Why older?  Well, because Purple Gatsby is for slightly more mature styles… explanation to come.  So how can I convince you to invest in Purple Gatsby?  In fact, is it worth buying?

The Review

So, on the Gatsby comparison chart Purple is described as “Wild & Spikey” as opposed to Pink’s “Spikey & Stirring.”  Um… ok.  Doesn’t tell us much.  Well, Purple is intended to work on longer length hair (medium short), but if you’ve ever tried using Pink on that length, you’ll find that it still holds pretty well.  What Pink can’t do as well, however, is bond your hair without turning it into pointy spikes. Purple is able to bring your hair together into a point without making it sharp.  For medium short hair in particular, it makes your spikes less vertical at the tips.  This makes it effective for rounder styles, or if you have your hair curving to the side instead of sticking straight up.  There’s a bit of shine, though, like most Gatsby Moving Rubbers.  And since it’s called “Wild Shake,” you can expect environmental factors such as wind to “shake” up your hair if you don’t use hairspray.

  1. I have oriental hair that does not cover my ears (from previous length discussion) – so should I be looking for products for short hair?

What is the best product to use to create a faux hawk given my hair type and length?

  3. Hi

Can you give me some advice on which gatsby to buy?

I’ve had my hair cut recently and I really want to try asian hairstyles, anime hair, and the “messy” natural look(and anything else that looks fun). The longest part of my hair is the top part, which is about 3 inches don’t want my hair to be lethally pointy all the time, so which Gastby is the best for me?

    • Try orange first, but if that’s too stiff for you then probably purple. Orange will give you more hold.
