Gatsby Moving Mist – Crush Move

First Impressions

When I first got this in the mail, my friend and roommate thought it was some sort of suppository… Rest assured, this is a 100% hair product. Gatsby’s Moving Mist series is a line of spray waxes very similar to Shiseido’s Fog Bar.

As Brian also found out with Fog Bar Red, spray-wax is a little disorientating to work with. I watched the official tutorial videos that Gatsby usually puts out for their products and tried to follow along. It wasn’t so much of a go.

The Review

Trying to style my  hair by making twists and bundles didn’t work too well even if I  just used a burst or two. For some reason the product just wouldn’t hold up very well like Gatsby wax does. I think more product stayed on my hands than in my hair.
Next I tried a more counter-intuitive attempt. I sprayed the product directly onto my hands and proceeded to use it exactly as I would normal Gatsby wax. This worked half-way, in that it allowed me to get product onto my roots and get some volume. However, it still wasn’t impressive as I thought and I felt like I was wasting product.

The best application I can think of is using this in a way similar to the other spray wax I reviewed: Regis Texture Tousle. Use it while blow-drying to achieve shape and style. While my hair was still wet I spritzed it, worked the product into my roots, and then upside-down blow dried. End result? I got lots of volume and my hair didn’t feel heavy with product when it was dried. Throw in some of your usual wax and then use the Moving Mist as a finishing hair spray and you’ve got a pretty good looking hairstyle.
Crush Move, isn’t nearly as easy to apply as the Gatsby video might show. It can easily saturate and make your hair feel greasy if you apply too much. This particular Moving Mist is better used as a complement to other products than as a base styling product in my opinion

  1. I have swing master (the white one) and I realized it’s not best to be used for holding up your hair. Instead it’s used to create bundles and add texture. You first have to shape your hair using heat and then use the product. I like it.

  2. Gatsby Moving Mist cannot use as hairstyling product, it won’t works as wax anyway.

  3. Nonono.. You’re doing it wrong! The Gatsby sites says to spray it 360 degrees around your hair for 7 times, then you style it, not the method that you’re using :/

  4. Thats really weird… it works great for me :)
