Checking Your Hair On The Go

Written by: Brianlam

After spending a good 30 minutes styling your hair, you step out the front door to head to class.  As you’re walking, a sudden gust of wind blows you away.

You’re chilling with friends, when a girl comes over to ruffle your “oh so cute” hair.

You didn’t realize it was raining, so you’re forced to pull up your hood.

These types of scenarios happen to all of us:  unforeseen circumstances ruin your hair.  What’s worse is being caught without a mirror, and thus no way to check and fix your hair.  Here are a few tips to help you out:

1.  If you’re outside walking, use your shadow.  You’ll be able to see if your hair flopped to one side, or if there are any massive fly-aways.  Be careful, though, because your shadow is far from precise.  Don’t try to fix any small details based on just the silhouette.

2.  At dinner?  Use the back of your spoon.  It’s like a handheld mirror, except it makes you look elongated.  If you use the wrong side, your reflection will be upside-down.

3.  Camwhore or take a picture with your cellphone.  If you want to be inconspicuous, take a picture with someone else but “accidentally” cut them out of the picture.

4.  Although cars do have mirrors, if you’re in the back seat you can use the window while pretending to gaze at the scenery rushing past.  Remember, your reflection is easier to see if it’s brighter on your side of the window.

5.  Along the same vein, any shiny / reflective surface will suffice.  Window shopping is now a multi-functional activity.

6.  Carry a small mirror with you.  Easier for girls to pull off, obviously.

What you should never do is try to feel your hair with your hand by “patting” it because:

1.  Everyone will know what you are doing.

2.  You’ll do more damage than good.

3.  You’ll get product residue on your hands.
